Unity, brotherhood, charity is behind the formation of Kokani Muslim Jamat Societies Karachi. In the 18th yearly function of 1999-2002, we present the report

1- Jamat’s governing body has so far conducted 19 meetings from 24-3-1999 to 7-7-2002. The position holders and members have expressed their valuable views and ideas.

2- Printing of Calendar for the year 2000-2001
Like earlier a four pages calendar with the names of Almighty Allah and Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) was printed with the efforts of Jamat’s governing body and members and was distributed free to all members and Zakat donors. The cost of printing and composing was equally divided among the governing body members and was not deducted from the Jamat’s fund. This calendar was appreciated by the kokani community of Karachi and other countries.

3- Zakat Fund
Like earlier we had full support from the community and since 1986 to 2002 we get money from our members and community people in our zakat fund which has been distributed from time to time and the report is given below

The above was distributed with the approval and validating of receivers by the governing body of the Jamat and with the help of requests received and checked by other Kokani Jamat’s of Karachi in Baldia Town, Landhi, Korangi, Kemari, Manora and North Karachi. Apart from this request for Zakat was also received by the Jamat directly and Zakat was dispatch by completely validating if the receiver is genuine or not.

With the community people’s support and well wishes, the governing body’s meeting on 7-7-2002 the help which was done during 1999-2002 included 20 marriages of deserving poor Kokani girls were done with 6000 rupees each, 19 ill Kokani brothers and sisters were helped with 5000 rupees each which included a old kokani lady who had heart valve operation with the help of 20000 rupees given by Shaikh Abdulsamad. Apart from this a widow kokani lady’s house roof was build with the help of 15000 rupees. Also Widows and deserving kokani’s were helped with the help of other kokani jamats of Karachi.

It is important to mention that till the governing body meeting held on 7-7-2002 the Zakat Fund bank account, PLS-2135 had 297522 rupees and for emergency purposes 500000 rupees Defense Saving Certificated are reserved on which 275000 rupees profit is payable by the end of 30-6-2002.

It is also necessary to bring in the notice of the members and Zakat donors that the above amount for emergency purposes is not intended for any profit purpose but to keep the flow of Zakat active for the jamat for 2-3 years. Also this amount and the profit will only be used for deserving kokani Muslims. For example the profit of 50000 rupees that we had from these certificated by the end of 12-1-2001 was distributed along with the original amount of the certificated purchased i.e. total of 207675 rupees was distributed before the end of Ramadan without any intention of good deeds.

The position holders and members of the governing body pray to Allah Almighty that the above mentioned amount should only be distributed among the deserving with all the rules and regulations of Zakat distribution. May Allah Almighty help us in it

Zakat Fund’s account and other accounts will be close after the governing body meeting of 7-7-2002 till the next meeting. No money will be paid to anyone. Also any decision regarding Defense Saving Certificates will not be taken or rectified till the next meeting.

1- SCHOLARSHIP DISTRIBUTION
For earning education the community’s students got two more amounts for scholarship from Mr. Iqbal Hasan Kazi Advocate

Late Mohammed Hasan Kazi 5000 rupees
Late Fatima Hasan Kazi 5000 rupees

Now the scholarship fund till date is 224500 rupees donated by the following community brothers and sisters

From the above amount of 225000 rupees Special Saving Certificates the profit from 24-3-99 to 30-6-2002, scholarship was distributed among 51 students of a total 61100 rupees with the approval and checking by the governing body.

The governing body is thankful to all donors.
Regarding the Scholarship Fund’s Special Saving Certificates, a total of 167000 rupees certificates in April 2002 got profit and the total became 231506 that we saved in the bank. Apart from this the remaining scholarship fund of 58000 rupees got a profit of 19626 rupees that was deposited in bank. This 58000 rupees Special Saving Certificated end date was 25-6-2002 and the total amount with profit is 59936 rupees that has deposited in bank on 26-6-2002. With the suggestion and approval of the governing body the whole amount of 224500 has been deposited in 5 yearly fix deposit account in MCB Bahadurabad. From the profit of this amount the smooth flow of scholarship distribution will be possible. Jamat’s Fund in account PLS-63-9 was 112539 rupees till 7-7-2002, out of which 80% is for scholarship distribution. The 224500 rupees in 5 yearly PLS Term Deposit will not be touched or discussed till the nest yearly meeting. Account # PLS-63-9 will be closed after the governing body meeting on 7-7-2002 till the next meeting.

1- DAR-AL-FALAH PLOT
As in earlier yearly reports it has been mentioned regarding the betterment of community and for future, the jamat has acquired a plot of 280 sq. yards in Dar Al-Falah A/59 Kokan Society scheme 33, phase 1. Of which till date a 66860 rupees has been paid to the jamat and the donation of 16000 rupees has been made in PLS-63-9 for Dar Al-Falah Fund.

This Dar Al-Falah plot A/59 Scheme 33 Phase 1 Kokan Society will not be open for discussion till the next yearly meeting of the governing body.

2- GRAVEYARD SPACE
Community’s present graveyard which has very less space left and the need for more space is required for which we are trying for quite some years by giving requests to Mayor and Governor of Karachi for giving some space for graveyard. For this a member of the governing body Mr. Shabbir Kharbey has offered help by using some resources and personal relations of his son Dr. Najamuddin.

1- DEDUCTION IN MEDICAL FACILITIES OFFERED
Jamat’s member Dr.Najamuddin Shabbir Kharbey in 2001 has ask his father Shabbir Kharbey who is the member of the governing body to convey the message to all community members that a Private hospital will give 30% on total medical bills. For that he has not given written confirmation. Still the community people can avail this offer. Before Dr. Saleem Hasan Mukaddam has offered discounts in his private clinic in writing for the community people. The position holders and members of the governing body is thankful to both Doctors for the help they have extended towards the community betterment.

2- LIFE TIME MEMBER
Till 7-7-2002 there are 200 life time members so far whose names are mentioned on the next pages.

It is necessary to bring in notice that the Zakat Fund and General Fund of the Jamat is not being used for the various expenses of office work and yearly meetings and is being done on voluntarily basis.

Jamats permanent honorary editor Mr. Zaid Hasan Kazi has helped in making the list of Zakat donors and lifetime members from 1999-2002 that is available on next pages.
